Holiday Letter from Justine Jones
Hi everybody! Thanks, Karina, for letting me post this letter. Carolyn Crane says it’s okay too, as long as I don’t spill any secrets. OMG, so much has happened this year!!
So, here’s my holiday update on the Disillusionist gang. (Without spoilers….)
Shelby is her usual chipper self. She has taken up knitting, and has been knitting some very randomly colored scarves, and also mittens that don’t have thumbs, like socks for your hands. I asked her about it—how are we supposed to unlock doors and drive cars if our hands are trapped? “There is no place to go anyway,” she said. Well, they are quite colorful, anyway. If you are on her gift list, act like you think they’re cool.
Carter has joined a demolition derby racing circuit. We think he has really found his calling, racing around and smashing cars. It turns out that the Tangle was amazing training. He tells us he is the star of his anger management classes, too. Unfortunately, his anger management instructor seems reluctant to speak with any of us and lately has gone into hiding.
Nothing much is new with Simon. He’s lost all his money and people are after him. He has intimidated and corrupted a variety of folks on his way to ruin, but “only if they wanted him to,” and he is also recommending the movie Thelma and Louise to people this holiday. And he may be getting married.
Helmut is very worried about the fiscal cliff. He gave me a ten-page document to include here about it, and some addendums on a new financial collapse. If he asks, say it was in this letter and that you read it. And try to look really upset. He is giving people on his list books on how to send smoke signals, so that they are prepared for the communications collapse. Yay!
Packard is his usual tortured mastermind-y self. He still refuses to eat kebabs, but recently he gave in and ate toasted marshmallows on a stick, which we think was amazing progress. He has recently taken up archery. Santa might bring him a new archery set.
I’m hoping to do some winter rollerblading this season. And I’m looking forward to a quiet holiday and many long nights reading and snuggling in bed with a certain someone. And no visits to the ER…hopefully!
I hope that you all have a very Happy Holiday! The Disillusionists and I wish you the best!
